One of Stupid Fast's themes is that you can spread your misery to those who are around you. Felton's best friend Gus has to go to Venezuela to see his sick grandma. Felton, is left all alone in their home town. Felton turns into a jerk. He complains to his single mother so much that eventually there is an obvious change in her. Felton thought he was to suffer alone, but he has brought that suffering to those he loves

Geoff Herbach uses tone to give the reader an idea of what the setting is. The book is written from the point of view of Reinstein. Reinstein narrates in a modern way and is often describes the place he lives as a Suckville. with Reinstein's tone, the setting is modern and gloomy
