Derek twisted his ankle badly, which caused the Tigers to beat the Yankees. He was the 28th player to reach 3000 hits and the second one to do it with a home run. He turned out to be one of the best baseball players ever, and retired in 2014.

Derek became a young baseball legend quickly. He made many home runs, and won the world series for the Yankees multiple times, back to back one in the 90's. After September 11th, Derek went to visit many survivors, and kids of people who died. He didn't do it for the fame. He even asked reporters to leave and give them privacy.

Derek wanted to be a bigger baseball player. He was accepted as a shortstop since the main one was on the injury list as he had broken his leg. Derek did pretty good, but he also messed up often. Derek was accepted to be a Yankee by a scout. He was very eager to play, but he had to say bye to his family. He had to travel to Florida, and he felt like an outsider while everyone had room mates. He went 0 and 7 his first game, and he couldn't get a hit for the next week. He was sad, and his parents visited him twice. He is wondering if he is good enough for the Yankees.
