As I keep reading, El Patron shows a very peculiar way of treating Matt, his clone. Everyone else treats him as if he is the worst thing that has existed on the face of the earth, which makes me predict that there's something more significant to El Patron's nice and caring feelings toward Matt. His incessant compliments to Matt foreshadow that he doesn't like him because he's his clone, but for something else.

As I started reading, I noticed that the location where they story takes place is in a strip of land between the United States and Mexico. It is very obvious that the story and characters are very influenced by Mexico's culture. For example, when Matt tells Maria the stories about the "Chupacabras" and the "Llorona". Also, the use of the "Alacran" suggests it is a symbol for something else other than the last name.
