When Frank committed suicide the moment felt shocking to me since Frank was a proud person. This made me think that he would want to die in honor and not have a bad reputation at death. Since Frank kills himself the Hayden name starts to be less respected. This leads to Wesly not feeling safe for his family to live their causing them to leave Bentrock

I was sad when I realized just how mean Julian really was to Wesly. Julian did not respect him at all and thought that he was making a wrong decision for following the law and arresting Frank. I realized that Julian was so mad not because his favorite son was being arrested but it would ruin the family name so he would not be respected as much, witch would result in a loss of power for him.

I was amazed when Wesley was able to overcome the pressure from his father to do everything he says and arrest Frank. I think this is a very important part of the book were we can understand who the protagonist is. Wesley is showing lots of signs that he could be a potential protagonist in this story. He had a flaw of listening to every command his father gave him, but eventually overcame it by arresting Uncle Frank.

I questioned Marie's death from when it happened, I thought to myself how did she die? Since a few pages earlier she said that she was feeling better and overcoming her sickness when Gail checked up on her. The next day David saw Frank near there house. I predict that later in the story we will find out that Frank entered there house and caused Marie's death.

I was surprised that Julian hid the truth about what Frank had been doing to Native American girls. It shocked me that he still respected Frank more than Wes, even after knowing this. My reaction grew when Julian showed clear racism by saying he only wanted white people in the family. I predict that later in the story we’ll learn the real reason behind Julian ignoring the truth.

I was confused when the David was describing Julian's house and he wrote that it is a big two story house that is made out of logs. David mentioned that Julian's house symbolizes humility. This did not make sense to me though since throughout the story Julian has tried to get as much power as possible. I would think that his house would be made of material that symbolize power.

I was absolutely shocked after reading page 36, and learning about all the horrible and terrifying things that Frank has done to his patients. Once I finished the page I questioned why on page 22 did Gail say I'll call Frank even though she knows what Frank had done. Even if it was only to give medicine, why would Gail let Frank be anywhere near Marie, knowing what could happen.

I questioned why when Frank came over to help heal Marie, David described him and mentioned how he was so much better that his father at most things. I think he did this to show that his father is constantly being compared to people. I predict that later in the story the dad will change and learn compare himself to who he was the day before, rather than to his brother.

I was interested on the men of Montana, on how they were so relaxed to work on the farms and ranches in harsh conditions after coming back from battle. I would think that they would want to stay at their house and relax instead of farming and ranching. I was confused on what the author meant by writing "let me disabuse you" on the start of page 4?
