random thoughts at this point in the book:
- it took me way too long to realize their names are of + their commander’s name
- love the idea of a narrative being reconstructed
- reminds me a lot of what is happening with ice today
- love love love how moira’s queerness is portrayed and the description of her lapse in intimacy in friendship with the narrator that was healed over time :) so relatable

losing my mind at the transitions between present/past speech and the use of quotation marks!!! so so brilliant and goes back to my last point about the idea of restructuring the narrative. it’s like creative nonfiction… when the narrator is speaking in the past she is at liberty to determine the specific dialogue to her memory as long as it stays mostly true

“i avoid looking down at my body, not so much because it’s shameful or immodest but because i don’t want to see it. i don’t want to look at something that determines me so completely.”

read atwood’s ‘an angel’ tonight to write a final essay on and was very fascinated. i’ve been wanting to read for a while but couldn’t decide on what, so that inspired me to finally pick this up. woohoo.
