I thoroughly enjoyed learning about some recent-ish church history that helps me see what has happened in major liberal denominations, like the PCUsa for example.

John Owen Chapter: 6/10

My brain at 6:30am can’t handle John Owen apparently. I had to reread every sentence like 5 times 🥲

Athanasius chapter: 8/10

Took a break and was reading Prodigal God for my devotional time. But I missed being in this every morning 🥹 We’re so back.

William Wilberforce chapter - 9/10
I so appreciated this chapter. I felt like I could really relate to William in a lot of ways I didn’t expect.

PS: In case you’re following my journey, I ended up buying the longer version of the book, because life is too short not to live a little 😎

Charles Simeon chapter - 7/10

As someone who’s been helped immensely by the Charles Simeon Trust, it was great learning about the man himself.

John Newton chapter: 10/10
Best chapter yet. I see so much Christ in Newton. He reminds me most of the author, Piper. He is someone I want to emulate as a man of God and as an aspiring pastor. Joy filled, truth saturated, tender at heart, lover of people, in awe of grace. We have a room in our church building named Newton, and now I understand why!

Brainerd chapter: 8/10

David Brainerd lived to 28 and I’m 26. Got some catching up to do for the Kingdom in these next two years 😤🫡

William Cowper chapter - 6/10

while this chapter wasn’t my favorite, John Piper always has gold hidden somewhere:
“For the most part, mental health is the use of the mind to focus on worthy reality outside ourselves.”
“Mental health is, in great measure, the gift of self-forgetfulness.”
So true.
