ANTAGONIST: The antagonist is Jeanine Matthews. Tris describes her as a manipulative Erudite leader who puts everyone at risk. This shows that Jeanine’s actions create most of the danger and tension in the story. It also explains why Tris eventually has to stand up to her, making Jeanine the main force against her.

DYNAMIC CHARACTER: Tris is a Dynamic Character. This is because she was originally known as cowardly and weak, but being in Dauntless eventually changed her mindset and strengths. "Pretty sure we can't call you 'Stiff' anymore," Shauna says. She nods. "Tris" (Roth 224). This shows the other members of Dauntless noticed she got braver, showing a change in character for Tris.

CONFLICT: The conflict of the story is character vs. self. This is because Tris left her family for Dauntless, causing her to second guess her choice. She feels like a disappointment to her family because she was born into the Abnegation faction, so leaving it for a faction that lives the opposite of what she is used to can feel too sudden for her family.

PREDICTIONS: Tris watches in pain as the other people fight. I predict that Tris will be weak while fighting. "... the sight of Christina clutching her rib cage makes me want to stand between her and Molly" (Roth 98). This shows she has a soft and protective personality, leading me to think she will not want to fight because of her innocence.
