ANTAGONIST: The antagonist in the story is the person in the track lane next to Patina. I think this because in the text shes constantly trying to one up her competitor as they are trash talking her, this puts the competitor in a negative light. Another reason why I think the current antagonist is the competitor is because this is the last track race before the story ends so its the final obstacle that Patina faces.

static vs dynamic: Patina is a dynamic character during the story. On page 154 there is a quick change in her behavior when momly gets into a car accident "Squeeed tighter this time , like trying to squeeze some its gonna be better in me ... oh, Maddy. No one was kicking the back of my sweat, Maddy, Maddy, please, just ... Momly, please, please just... be ... just ... be breathing.". This is where Patina is dynamic.

CONFLICT: The conflict in the story is character vs self. I think that because in the story Patina is constantly taking care of her sister, taking care of her mom, recently thinking about the loss of her dad. This is taking a toll on her mental health and her track career is starting changing so Patina is doubting herself on what she can do. That is why I think the conflict of the story is character vs self.

Prediction: Patina is practicing more under a new coach, and I predict that her training is going to take up her time then her mom and Patina's relationship with her might change. "Where did you go,and why did you have to leave? And what are you doing? Are you having fun without us? Are you jumping?Are you dancing?Are you running fast?Please come back. We miss you." (p.72). The relationship is changing with her mom.
