This book has been a life changer for me. I am not very surprised that Frank killed himself with the glass because he knew it was over for him and his reputation was ruined forever. I know it will be a very gruel and long process for the Hayden family to recover from this but I have faith they can do it. It is unfortunate what happened to Julian but I think it plays a big symbolism that the old reputation is gone.

Wow, no way that just happened. I think after this, Wesley has a far better understanding of what his dad is made of, absolute garbage. He woke up from the illusion of trying to always impress his dad. I think their relationship as father and son is permanently going to turn bitter and filled with hatred. I was honestly surprised at first because I thought Wesley was going to be a good boy to his father.

I am really concerned about David and his dad. David has been really conscious and worried about his family name. I think this will really affect him in the future because he will always be insecure about what his family has done to others and will never be himself in public situations. I also feel so bad for his dad because of the stress he is going through. He has to balance family loyalty and his job as a sheriff.

I think in this chapter, David has matured at a very great pace. His development as a person is shown through his thoughts about his dad's job. At first, he believed fighting bad guys was the hardest part about his job. Then, he realised it is the mental aspects such as having to tell family members of other member's passing. I am left wondering if Wesley will prioritize justice or family loyalty by protecting Frank.

No way that just happened! There is no way Marie's death was from her sickness. She was recovering from it! Also, the timing just seems so convenient for Frank as Marie died right after Frank was confronted by Wesley. Frank is definitely responsible for this murder as his pick up truck was also parked right outside when the murder happened. I will be so mad if Wesley still puts family loyalty first and protect Frank.

It was clear to me that Wesley did not want to prosecute Frank. It was so mind blowing for me that out of all the Native Americans, Hayden would choose to question Ollie. Ollie was extremely hated by his own people and described by Marie as someone who wants to be white. That was crazy for me because Ollie would obviously not know anything about this. Wesley is trying to protect Frank by questioning random people.

I am so surprised and devastated by what I just read. It was a very big shock for me as I genuinely thought Uncle Hayden was a great person. Even more surprisingly, David's father did not even seem surprised and did not take appropriate measures to punish his brother. His dad even knew his brother was 100 percent guilty yet was not surprised in any way. I was wondering if Wesley will defend or prosecute David.

I was extremely confused on why Marie did not want a doctor even though her conditions were so severe. Also, it was not that she did not want a doctor, it was that she just did not want Uncle Hayden to be her doctor. I found that really hard to grasp because Uncle Hayden seems to be a great guy, a war hero and a prominent doctor. What more could Marie ask for? Is there something secret about Uncle Hayden?

Overall, the beginning of the book was setting the readers up for what is to come next. I found it extremely interesting that David's dad is a sheriff even though both of his kid and wife are not fond of it. Perhaps, David's dad's pressure as a sheriff forced him to continue the family heritage. Also, Marie seems very nice because of her ability to care and be a very good role model to David.
