I am sure that this book offers far more than an invasive glimpse into the lives of impoverished sheep farmers in 20th century Iceland, but I cannot finish the remaining 396 pages. I could withstand the overall bleakness and the emotional rigidity of the protagonist if it inspired a humane call to action, but the only thing I was inspired to do was pop it in the return chute at the library.
