This was kind of a slog for me the first 200 pages due to the world building. It's getting better with more focus on the characters and their development, but still seems to be a lot of words and descriptions that I find unnecessary. I'm finding myself taking breaks to read other things.
Manacled I found to be so much better because the world was already created and familiar and the backstory known.

Compared to Manacled where you know the backstory this so far is kind of a slow burn for me with a lot of world building, character introductions and complex magic, that I kinda get bored with - I'm way more interested in Helena and Kains interactions.
This book has gotten a lot of criticism claiming it romanticizes rape. So far I think the author has done well to explain the complexities of a violent relationship
