‘The true form of architecture was decided by the choice of roof’, that reminds me of Aalto’s French client.
He wanted his house to be designed by Le Corbusier, perhaps for a sense of national pride, right?
‘But… I want a roof’, he said.
In the end, he hired Alvar Aalto—the Finnish architect—instead.
Sometimes architecture begins with just shelter logic—stubborn demand for a roof.

the parlour placed against the stair room, so naturally the space beneath the stairs becomes a storage for it. the dining hall or what they call refectory—the eating room for communal meals—is placed near, by, or even above the river. Opposite its entrance, a pavilion containing a fountain which got its water from uncontaminated spring. the river is used for washing dishes.
