When he asks me what colour I want, I tell him blue like the sky. As he searches the cans, I stand in place, unable to move or breathe. It's like losing Finch all over again. Then Mike is back and he has found the colour that is the colour of Finch's eyes, which he can't possibly know or remember.

I say, "Do you really think he's somewhere?" Brenda blinks at me. "Like anywhere? I mean, I like to think wherever he is, maybe he can see us because he's alive and in some other world, better than this. The kind of world he would have designed if he could have. I'd like to live in a world Theodore Finch designed." I think: For a while, I did.

After the preacher is finished, everyone moves toward them to shake their hands and offer their condolences. The family accepts them as if they've earned them. No one says anything to me.

As he talks, I lie back against the ground, the blanket wrapped around me, and say to the sky, "May your eyes go to the Sun, To the wind your soul... You are all the colors in one, at full brightness."

He's not nowhere. he's not dead. He's just found that other world.
