Book is dragging but I have to make it through to reach my yearly goal

Im sure something will be revealed to me later, but I’m confused about how Hayden is still in the running for the job when Margaret, the person he is supposed to be getting to know, describes him as an “animated suit of armor.” Why would you want someone like that writing a book about u and also how did he win a Pulitzer when he’s so unfriendly to the Margaret? Is he just more friendly to men with memory loss
