Nearly at the end of this Goliath, however it really hasn't been a chore! I've read enough to know that "classic" doesn't equate to "enjoyable" every time, however I've really been surprised by this one and I think I'll feel a bit at a loss when I finish. Still, there's always Anna Karenina...

It's an emotional roller coaster at the moment! I love how Tolstoy switches perspectives from telling stories about his character, to philosophical insights and theories, to explaining the course of history and then explaining why he thinks these things happened the way they did (which ties the different parts together.) It's really cool!

I'm really enjoying the interjections of Tolstoy's determinist philosophy of history that break up the story. It's impressive how he fits so much into a mere 1392 pages!

Half way through and it's time to play the 1812 overture!

Early midlife crisis, duel a guy, leave your wife, join a cult, free the surfs... Who hasn't been there?
