"For the next few day all I did was pace from living room to the kitchen and back again, thinking about the attack on the Chi-West. I couldn't sleep. Over and over gain I imagined the bullets piercing that girl's face and chest and the blood splattering." This snapshot in the book shows the scene of fighting between Spanish Lord and Chi-West gang. Sanchez describes the girl was shot in by a member of Spanish Lord.

I really enjoyed when the author used Sketch a Character Writers Move in describing a gang's leader: "The leader of the Unknowns was called J.J. He was a big, stocky guy with blond hair and blue eyes. Those who didn't know him swore that J.J. was a white boy, but he was actually Puerto Rican."
