As far as YA novels that tackle hot topics go, this is a good read. I remember when I read IANYPMD, I was annoyed by the protagonist, how much the book was trying to do, and the way it handled real issues. In comparison, this is SO MUCH BETTER! Additionally, Starr’s life feels so real to my own students -esp in Chicago- and I love that.
