The imaginative landscape is impressive. However the characters seem like cardboard cut outs, which are often racist or sexist. especially the representation on Stangemens crew as 'negros' and 'Beatrice' as a voiceless doll/mannequin that represents a horrifying femininity that is both only valuable to the male characters and leaves her a passive victim throughout. Would recommend reading Empire of the Sun.
