The House on the Cerulean Sea—this was an unexpected favorite for me, but it has such a beautiful found-family story line, and it has a beautiful representation of a gay relationship!
Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver! Heartbreaking, humorous, honest, and ultimately hopeful look at Appalachia and the opioid crisis
i feel you may enjoy a well trained wife? or a thousand splendid suns! two of the only books to make me cry lol
the goldfinch, dracula, frankenstein, in watermelon sugar, the secret history, the garlic ballads , the course of love
If you want something dense and beautiful and horrible: The Secret History. If you want fantasy romance that is actually well written: Little Fire by Hollee Mands. If you want an audio book that will make you feel nostalgia so acute it is almost painful: The Dutch House, narrated by Tom Hanks.
Vicious by V E Schwab comes to mind for me!! Also i think i’ve already recommended priory of an orange tree to u at some point? I still stand by that one being one of my all time faves, thought it is long so it’s a commitment (and some ppl don’t like the pacing i’ve heard)Another recent fave is A Dowry of Blood!! it’s from Dracula’s first wive’s point of view, & shows her thought process as she navigates an abusive relationship dynamic with him. Also includes some sapphic tension between her and his second wife!!
Fingersmith or Affinity by Sarah Waters, Matrix or the Vaster Wilds by Lauren Groff, Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler!
