The instructor mentioned during a lecture that this book goes into more depth than we need for the class, so I am now mostly skimming and not bothering to take notes (quizzes are untimed and open-book). Reading one chapter per week doesn't fill me with dread anymore.
Don't get me wrong; the book is very clearly written and easy to follow. It just goes way deeper into theory than needed.

So far, thumbs up for the book. The chapter is densely-packed with information but fortunately it's presented clearly. Unfortunately, the chapters are 60-100 pp and I have to read one each week. FML. At least the quiz has no time limit so I can answer questions as I go.
Lesson learned: read one or two sections every day instead of trying to mainline the whole chapter.
