The abstract noun in Just Kids is love. Robert and Patti find love in the beginning of the novel but as Robert soon finds his sexuality they break up, but make a vow to always love each other and be there for each other. They're in love with each, but in a different way. It's very hard to describe what they have because it's very different. It also borderlines Robert's sexuality.

"Patti you're like a Ben Casey mermaid with the salt-water treatments." Why this: Mermaids live in salt water, Patti was doing salt-water treatments on Roberts socks. Symbolic comparison.
9-20-16: The simile is good, I feel like the text has a lot of emotion to it and I wouldn't change the comparison between Patti and the mermaid because anything else wouldn't fit.

"Only that morning we had escaped the depressing aura of Allerton and now we had a small but clean room in one of the most historic hotels in New York City." It brings about the theme of the book which is things do get better after hardships. The words depressing and clean are there to describe how bad there life was at the Allerton hotel and how much better their life will be at the Chelsea Hotel.

"I waited all day for you," he would say." This piece of text has a lot of emotion in it even though it was a single sentence. You can feel Robert's sadness for waiting all day for Patti and only seeing her now. His possessiveness also shows through this text because he wants to be with her and always be with her. And, Robert isn't possessive in this relationship either.

I'm anxious to see what will happen to Patti because she is on the streets of New York right now homeless.
