i know erikson sometimes gives you a character only to later on give you another perspective on them that makes you rethink how you feel. i don't want that to happen with Karsa. i was sickened many times by his actions and find nothing redeemable in him.

Four books in and I've finally stopped trying to classify characters as either "good guys" or "bad guys". This series is so much more than escapist fantasy, there are real world issues with diverse and realistic motivations behind each decision. Amazing sequence of novels!

Wow. Just... wow. Erikson is amazing. Just now in the middle of book four (!!!) I'm starting to see how immense this really is. Simply stunning.

Give it time. Karsa's no knight in shining armor but he's more complex and insightful than he seems in that first section he's in.

Other than his fearlessness I could see nothing to connect with or support as a character.
Scott wrote: "I couldn't wait for Karsa's section to be over...........he grows on you."I was thinking that as I was reading and being repulsed, that there was a reason for the graphic depiction of his actions. The more I am disgusted by him, the more powerful the transformation will be if he ever turns "good".
