Since it seems as likely as not that in a week DONALD FUCKING TRUMP is going to be declared commander-in-chief of the most powerful army humanity has ever known, I ask the good people of the world, what are you stocking your bomb shelters with? Also, half of America? Fuck you. I'm not one of you and I don't like you - stay away from me and my family you scary idiots.

Geoff Also, considering the Mike Flynn news coming out, let's revisit what Trump thinks of immunity: “The reason they get immunity is because they did something wrong. If they didn't do anything wrong, they don't think in terms of immunity." Uh-oh

Geoff An anecdote from the front lines - so just now I'm sitting in this restaurant on Pennsylvania Ave., within site of the Capitol Building, eating lunch and there is this table of suits next to me - official looking folks, as common as birds around this part of town - they were talking very specifically about implementation of the budget and their agency - serious people, you know? - and then they start talking about meetings and one of them says "yeah but we've been told to buy travel insurance for upcoming trips because there might not be a government" and the rest were like "yeah us too" - holy shit!

I'm going to take a stab and say this was in regards to a gov't shutdown over the budget/debt ceiling... which will probably get solved at 11th hour like usual.

message 2755: by William (new)

William Mego I'm going to say that hopefully that means the sort of "no government" that comes without a federal budget.

And re: immunity, going public with one's desire to get it almost invariably means that while you think you might be in trouble, you don't have anything of use to others (such as incriminating info on others) because if you did, you'd have counsel privately attempt to enter the proffer process. So I'd guess he's got nothing interesting, and just wants to bait congress into giving it to him for free. My guess? I'd expect Nunes will have a breathless dramatic presser where he declares that "now we'll get to the bottom of it", give him immunity, find out there's nothing in a sort of reverse show trial (an elaborate staged event with a prearranged conclusion), and say the investigation is complete. Then 40 years from now we'll have proof that he and all parties colluded secretly to do exactly that.

It's great though that both Flynn and Trump have made public statements contrary to that line of thinking.

Zadignose One of my personal disappointments is that I own three Donald Trump Signature Series neckties, they're some of my favorites, and now I'm embarrassed to wear them.

Meanwhile, I thought I had spotted Devin Nunes wearing a Trump tie, but damnit, on closer examination I was wrong. That would have been cool. Should I start a fake-news story out of this, or should I have learned by now that real-fake-news legitimizes fake-fake-news and makes the whole structure of knowledge implode?

I can't wait to see this tested in a live situation. Who knows, maybe it'll work? On the other hand, it's also possible that the police officer will brutally club the cute girl to the ground, then drag her unconscious body to the paddy wagon as the contents of the spurned can of Pepsi Max™ forlornly trickle out in the dirt. I need data!

My god. That is amazing. I am so inspired by the #fierce manner in which she rubs off her lipstick.

I particularly like how their protest is apparently: "join the conversation". Deep.

message 2769: by Matt (new)

Matt At least in Germany it's forbidden to bring protective weapons or any object that can be used as a protective weapon in the current situation to a demonstration (like an umbrella against water canons I suppose). So I wonder if a full Pepsi can can be seen as such a weapon.

Aw c'mon, when something emerges from reality that amazingly cynical and absurd it kind of unintentionally brightens things for a moment. It made me laugh so hard!

Jonathan This is Pepsi's response to the criticism, which seems to use English words in ways I don't quite understand:

"“The creative showcases a moment of unity, and a point where multiple storylines converge in the final advert. It depicts various groups of people embracing a spontaneous moment, and showcasing Pepsi’s brand rallying cry to ‘Live For Now,’ in an exploration of what that truly means to live life unbounded, unfiltered and uninhibited.”

What do you mean? No earlier series of POTUS has had such high ratings. I believe Trump is even doing better than the "Watergate" episode of series 37.

Yeah what Manny said. This was basically the least risky/commital move he could have made and still claimed to have done something. It will be enough for Hannity.
