So far, a surprisingly creepy and well-written example of the "small town beset by ancient evil" trope. Of course all your stock characters from these types of novels are here (and who of course must band together): the old professor-type who suspects the truth due to his vast knowledge, the doubting world-weary sheriff, etc., but I don't care, I love that stuff.

It's too bad about the unfortunate cover, though.
