If this had come out when I was fifteen and in my Evanescence angst phase, I think I would have enjoyed it. Hell, even when I was eighteen and I my Tori Amos phase, I might have liked it. But even trying to make allowances for things like that, it still doesn’t work.

I will say that this scene is clearly very personal to the author. I can appreciate that. Pushing aside all my problems with the writing, this segment was clearly written from a place of love and grief.

Jumping into this straight off Cynthia Voigt was not the best idea. Hoo boy. The difference in quality is already staggering.
