One of the leaders acts like he has it out for her & won't stop staring at her. Then she conveniently gets moved to his wing. Oh, & he also happens to be super hot. The first dragon she meets seems to immediately take an interest in her. Like wtf ever. I haven't read a ton of adult books so I'm not too familiar with the "I'm not like other girls" trope. I hear it's common but I don't like it. It's giving fanfiction.

I'm already annoyed by the "I'm not like other girls " MC. We're constantly reminded how she's pale and weak, yet she can threaten a bully with a knife and boldly flirt with her lifelong best friend that happens to be super hot. She's a general's daughter so she knows all the jargon and how everything works, but that makes her a target so she has to hide who she is.

I've read the word "parapet" more times than is necessary for an entire book, let alone one chapter. But how many words can she use to describe Jack's eyes? Like I get it, they're blue.

Violet reciting history of the continent to focus on crossing the parapet feels like a cheap cop out for world building.

I'm really not impressed so far.
