The genes of this book are non-fiction, adventure, and a biography. It is non-fiction because it based on real facts and real people. It actually happened in history. It is biography because the author is writing about the life of a person who lived in society. And it is adventure because the main character experiences adventures and action while trying to survive in the wild.

The setting throughout the book takes place in Alaska. However, before, the setting traveled around the United States. This Alaska setting impacts the story because it is very difficult to survive in that setting. The main character in the book experiences these hardships.

The protagonist of the story is Chris McCandless, or Alex Supertramp. He is a young man from a well-to-do-family. He is on track to have a good life and career, but he decides to become a nature man and live purely off nature in the wilderness north of Mount McKinley in Alaska. Before he sets off on his journey, he decides to give all his 25000 dollars in savings to charity. He also abandoned his car and his cash.

I chose this book as my independent reading book because it was recommended by mom. She said that this book was very interesting and exciting, two of my favorite emotions in books. And since this was a best-seller and a major-motion picture, I figured that other people must like it too.
