I touch his cheek, my fingers slipping a little. "We will get another life. A better one," I promise.
I lean into the sarcophagus, ignoring the way my body screams in protest, and press a kiss to his lips. They're still warm.
I pull away, my mouth lingering right above his. "I will find you again, my king. I am eternally yours."

“The gods made you for me and me for you."
I see him swallow, his expression growing serious.
"I love you," he breathes. "With every piece of me, I do. I know my magic has corrupted my heart, but I vow to all the gods, it remains true to you and you alone." I give him an adoring look, and with that, he leans down and kisses me, parting my lips with his own.

"My fierce little witch," he says fondly. "I could spend the rest of my life doing nothing but gazing upon your face. It would sustain me for all my days."

That's it, grind yourself against my face. I don't need air when I can simply breathe you in.

"You are going to come on my mouth," he says against me, "then twice again when I'm inside you."

"Not when it comes to you." He takes my hand and laces his fingers between my own. "I would've given up more if that's what it took to get you back. I would follow you to the ends of the earth —into the very afterlife if I had to. Do you understand?" His eyes search mine. "This palace, my power, my people—it all comes second to us."

"You will not leave me," I tell her. "I forbid it."
The girl who entered my mind and woke my magic. Who saved my life and owns my entire godsdamned soul. She cannot leave me alone in this world.

His magic leaves him then, tugging my horse as close to his as he can get it. He places his hand on me and murmurs, "Make her skin impenetrable. Protect her body from all harm."
“You don't need to add another ward, I tell him. You've already placed a dozen or so on me.”

“Such a good wife, he praises. So good. So obedient—“
"You're about to get a foot in your face.' He laughs against me.
“Fine, he concedes, rarely obedient. Highly vicious.”

Deliberately, Memnon lowers himself to his knees, then presses a kiss to my lower belly. "The only one I bow to is you."
