Right now in the book the siblings are bathing together hoping that the grandmother won't find them because she is very strict about siblings bathing together. They are hoping that God will not punish them. They have been waiting a long time for there mother to come back from Charloyttesville.

In the book, all the siblings are locked in the attic. They are waiting for their mother to come back from Charlottesville. There grandmother has locked them in the attack because she doesn't want the maids to find out about them. Cathy, the main character, is trying to take care of her siblings without making to much noise or else the grandmother will get mad.

In the book, the siblings are now locked in the attic so they can hide from the maids that clean in the left wing once a month. They are frightened and it's very stuffy in there. They are waiting for there mother to come back from Charlottesville.
