In chapter 11 it really shows how much Evelyn Ryan is able to provide for her family when times are hard. It's Christmas and she hasn't been able to win anything. The money is low and the father is using his earning for drinking. Just when the kids think it is all over, they wake up on Christmas eve and find all these presents that is more than they had ever literally hope/think of.

A quote that I love is in page 137 where Evelyn Ryan is talking to the nun that slapped her child. She says, "not to worry sister. All my children are one of a kind." I love that quote because it shows how much she loves her kids and how she admires their unique qualities. She loves her kids so much that she is courageous to step out of what women were expect to do in that time.

What I find remarkable about this book is that Evelyn Ryan is able to raise 10 kids from winning prizes. She can turn a negative situation in a positive. I think that's something everyone should do. Just like the father said " you are just too happy."
