Vilette reads as a diary of the protagonist, Lucy Snowe, who is neither obnoxious or overly distasteful in her descriptions of her downfalls. I thoroughly anticipate her connection to Dr. John, whom I had accepted as the novel's romantic interest from his first (and second) introduction. The recount and retelling of Snowe's experiences, while not particularly innovative, offers a pleasant revival of our history.
