The stories here are beginning to merge into one another. Several are rehearsals of the same nativity plot, theme, characters. Some clumsy, some beautiful, some long, some short. I would be interested to know the publication history. It seems to me as though the act of collecting them together is more interesting than the stories themselves.

My first reading update in ages! I've been having a bit of a slump. Never mind. Finished off GMB's short stories last night and *loved* 'The Architect'. My favourite of the collection I think.

This is slightly different than I had expected. The four stories so far have been nostalgic, positive and less poetically driven than the novels. The closest we have come is 'The Laird's Son', with the people of Shetland observing Yule in their own way. Writing not to be beaten though.
