In this, as in other books and etc., I'm amused by how futures are so much more about the times in which they are imagined than the futures that follow them. Canticle is set in 3728 AD or whatever, but could not look ahead one or two years to a Catholic church that did away with much of the Latin arcana that had grown around it over the centuries, or computers that need not occupy several rooms.
