Oh great, now the main character is acting like he’s ashamed and embarrassed of his sister’s foster kid. No wonder his own child wants nothing to do with him.

You know this book is written by a man when the main character talks about how responsible his dead wife was for taking their 9 year old to get “ob-gyn screenings” as if that’s a casual appointment for a 9 year old.

And there’s something a little too close to home about the main character being a codependent parent who is desperate for a relationship with his estranged kid at all costs. This might be a DNF.
