I think she tends to over-explain things.
“It was my parents’ favorite song. It was their song before that plane crash took them away from me. And it made me feel close to them again to honor them that way”.
If the part about the plane crash isn’t important for the story I don’t understand why it’s there. The paragraph would be more powerful without the plane crash part. Simply “it was their song”.
