holland as a saint and the blood sacrifices made me think of my city's saint protector, januarius. he was a priest. they kept his blood in a glass box and it liquefies 3 times a year. the most important liquefying is on his saint day (sept 19). if it doesn't liquefy on that day, it's a bad omen for the city. they still can't explain how the blood turns from dried to liquid
