Like many others have pointed out, Small Boat is quite a recursive novel. For some, this recursion may have emphasized the novels key themes and allowed for introspection, but, I found it to be quite unproductive and boring. So far this is a 3/5.
Also, I would love to hear more about Julien's character. So far he is shaping up to be an interesting foil to the narrator.
