Those who went to college then WWI in order to write about it were essentially in their 4th chapter of life by 1920 in their early 20s. Inasmuch as the Great War shattered the 20th century, this talented cohort was almost destined to join the fragments into a new arrangement. At page 200, Cummings is discharged from the army and back into the writing life in Greenwich Village.
