Darby Evans is 56% done

I’m so confused why the plot is the way it is. It’s written kind of episodically— at this point, every chapter the characters visit a new island and have a new mishap. Might work better when this is adapted to a tv series, but it’s not working well as a book. Every mishap is a life or death battle, and I’m missing all the world building and character development that can happen during moments of peace.

I’m really trying with this book but my girl Rebecca is not making it easy on me. The book opened heavyyy on the politics, which are not easy to understand and I don’t care enough to try. The plot and pacing continue to be a problem in this book. Yarros doesn’t seem to know how to dial tension down so she can dial it up later in a more compelling and poignant way. Might take me years to finish
