Hei twisted the blade in her fingers. “The Goddess needs your blood to answer my call. I will kill you quickly, and she will answer. Then I will take her place as Death.”

“Yeah, that’s about as batshit as I was expecting.” I pulled the sword from the duffel and adjusted my grip. “I’ll pass.”

I felt adored, wanted, and desired like my body was the only pleasure they had ever known. “I’m going to rip this fucking shirt off you if you don’t cooperate,” Zane hissed. “I need these clothes off of you, hunter.”

The fabric was torn in half because of my failure to follow orders but, in my defense, Zane had pink nipples and I wanted to touch them. I’m pretty sure a jury of my peers wouldn’t convict me of secondhand shirt murder over these circumstances.

“Go make your phone calls.” He gave me a knowing look. “Then you’re going to tell me every single aspect of your plan while you eat some dinner before we leave.”

“You’re an evil bastard,” I sighed as he lifted an impatient brow. “Fine. But I want pancakes. And extra bacon for leaving me with homework.” I pointed at my dick and he rolled his eyes.

“Get to work then. We have death to defy and pancakes to get.”
