This book is a nice change of pace. I think Okonkwo's fear of weakness will be an interesting character trait as the story goes on, especially since he's in a position of such respect. To make a comparsion to Heart of Darkness, I'm really appreciative of the fact that characters seem to have some hint of dimension to them. Okonkwo's "adoption" of the younger warrior seems to be setting up a shaky plot.

I'm really enjoying Okonkwo's character. The fact that he harbors this confused desire to stray as far as possible from his father's weaknesses adds a layer of dimension when the Christians come and try to convert everyone and everything. On the topic of colonialism, I'm also interested by the fact that it's not portrayed as an outright evil, and I'm coming to sympathize with Mr. Brown's character.
