The author takes no responsibility for conservative talk radio as a creation of the GOP under Reagan and consequently offers no plan to harness the media for his candidate, whom he labels as a RINO, without explaining the origin of the designation or even spelling out what the acronym means.

And there it is in the last sentence of the first paragraph, a paragraph titled “The Convenient Lie”: “… if that’s what it took.” The author comes close to admitting that it’s all a power grab. Rather than inspiring and educating the “boss mob”, McCain tried to placate. All to win votes, morals and ethics be “danged!” Agreeing to having Sarah Palin as running mate should have been a clue.

In the book, he says he is trying to understand just how things got so bad and why certain people that he considered friends went off the deep end. I don’t think he will ever get to what I think is the truth: These people were and are greedy and power hungry. Any means toward the end of getting more of one and accruing more of the other were acceptable. We shall see if he gets there.

I find that I can relate to him a little bit as he is gay and I used to be Republican. I especially appreciate the way he describes himself, which could easily describe me: “I have the world’s worst poker face and a tendency toward blurting out my internal monologue.”

I have started reading the book. I just finished the introduction. His style of writing employs lots of millennial verbiage. For example, he says, “…unless you count sharing a little goss about who various political figures were hooking up with.” A few of those truncated words almost tripped me up a couple of times.
