Lack of attention for an infant ("attention" here literally being someone looking at and holding the baby) is a cause for severe emotional developmental issues that may not surface until the child is a teen or adult, including depression and anxiety.
Babies have absolutely no power over their care. If neglected, they will be forced to suffer for decades and pick up the pieces on their own later.

Highly recommend this book. I realized just how much shame I carry all the time. Some things seem to be staring me in the face my whole life and I don't recognize them until I read about them in a book. Then I say OH THAT'S ME TO A T!

Amazing so far - yes, already! Just 9% of the way in. This book is immediately so relatable for me, more inmediately relatable and applicable than any other book I've read, EVEN The Body Keeps the Score, which was a life-changing book for me. I have very high hopes for this book. Super excited already!
