One literary element that I found in my reading is characterization when the main character learned all the things that he needed to do in order to survive. This was effective because it told us about how the main character was able to change himself and how far he has come.

The best part of my reading today was that I read about Yanek in a different concentration camp and it was really interesting to me on how he was treated in the different ones, and what he had been through and how he felt changing concentration camps so often.

An observation I had about my book was that they were not prepared for the German army to once again invade their country and that Yanek, the main character was very scared about what would happen next but wanted to help in every way possibel.

Something that surprised me is that the father was trying to hide things from his son so his son didn't worry. This was surprising to me because I would think that they would work together.

A word in my book that I found unusual is "fuehrer." I found this word unfamiliar because it is in German, and I don't speak that language. It means leader.
