So the narrator doesn’t know for sure who the portrait of the woman in the white dress is (she thinks perhaps a long-dead relative of her husband’s), it was Mrs. Danvers who suggested she copy her costume from that specific portrait, AND the narrator has no real idea what her husband’s dead wife looked like…… this is about to get really awkward, calling it now.
