"every shade of red" by elliott wake --- this one was half-decent but i'm not raving the way other readers who gave this anthology middling reviews did. the way the bipoc characters are written in this feels.... Weird! i don't like it!

mackenzi lee's story was pretty cute, but i am not super confident in saundra mitchell's skills as an editor? or whoever did the copy editing in this book because oh boy was this one riddled with mistakes that really, really should have been caught, especially before the paperback release. yikes.

story 2: "the sweet trade" this was just okay. felt a bit pop mid 2000s feminism, with the wlw just tacked on. felt a lot more queer when clara dressed as a boy than when they kissed. oh well. overthinking a 15 page ya short story but some engaging in clara and pearl's queerness specifically would have been leagues more interesting, even just a paragraph or two. oh well.
