I'm sorta interested in what's going on, whole having no idea what's really going on, but dang did we really take 200 pages to do anything interesting? Also both MCs still have no character or reason to be hanging out let alone romantically interested but straight romance gonna straight I guess?

Haven't the faintest idea what's going on. World building is wobbly, as is character development. What exactly is Lane learning at this school cos we've barely seen her in class by a third of the way in.

I thought this was going to be a fairly fluffy romcom, but it's quickly turning into a hot mess of horrible people. I hope I'm wrong...

This book is a dark, joyless slog so far. The concept of book eating cryptids has startlingly little to do with any of the literature they consume, and contributes little or nothing to the plot by a third of the way in.
