My friend and I shout "fuck em" to each other so many times over the course of this evening that I eventually lose count.

A tabby cat approached her, mewing softly.
'Hello, you,' said Hatsuko, squatting and gently stroking the cat's forehead. 'Drowsy, was it?'

'I had a brainwave when I saw that advert in Gourmet Monthly,' continued Hatsuko, glancing around the restaurant. Kamogawa Diner and Detective Agency - We Find Your Food. I just knew it had to be you and your dad.'

'Hello?' called Yoshie, sliding the door open.
After a brief silence, Nagare Kamogawa emerged from the kitchen in his chefs whites. 'Can I help you?'
'This is the Kamogawa Diner, isn't it?' asked Masayuki.

"Yoroshu, o-agari,' said Nagare, turning with a smile.
'Sorry?' she said.
'Yoroshu, o-agari,' repeated Nagare, 'It's a Kyoto expression. We say it when someone thanks you for a meal. Means something like, "Thanks for eating it." You won't usually hear it in restaurants, mind.'

'Yes, that's the one.' Kyosuke showed the man his map.
'The Kamogawa Diner.'

'So much. I actually think I fancy him so much.' I smile to myself. 'Now you have to tell him!' Jean trills. 'Oh my God, tell him!' screams Tessa. I nod. 'You're right, I need to tell him,' I say to them, but in my head I say I need to tell both of them.

I'm still on cloud nine when I go to the theatre that afternoon.
Cloud ten, maybe!

Before I can reply, Sam has spun around and headed on stage and I'm left reeling and slowly realizing that... YES. Well... maybe? Definitely, maybe. Have l just had my first kiss? I'VE JUST HAD MY FIRST KISS!

I think for a second about what she said. Don't let the distance between you grow so much that you can't find your way back to each other. It's the perfect mixture of poetic and true.

The fact that I thought I could be in a relationship by Prom now feels completely laughable (but not at all funny). Instead I have become some sort of relationship grim reaper, swiping away at everyone close to me.

I am surprised by how quickly the time flies. So much so that I only realize the time when my now crimson-faced mother storms into the cafe looking for me.

It's surprisingly difficult to fill a weekend when you have been betrayed by your best friend.

The perfect big romantic gesture:
1. Doing it publicly, i.e. in front of a lot of people.
2. Giving a list of all the things you like about someone (these are often things that you also find annoying but you still like it somehow).
3. A brass band suddenly playing something as you are speaking.

Prom is fast approaching and I couldn't be further from getting a boyfriend (or doing any sort of planning for the Prom, come to think of it).

Anything is possible. That's my mantra for the day. I basically skip down the corridor at school in break.

Waar ik ook heen ga, overal op de wereld kom ik mensen tegen die bewust voor eenzaamheid kiezen. En dan bedoel ik ook echt overal: niet alleen op de kleine eilandjes in het zuiden van Alaska of de oerwouden van Borneo, maar ook gewoon in een wereldstad als Vancouver of een dorp in Drenthe.

Ik weet zeker dat als ik er nog dieper over ga nadenken, ik nog wel wat meer voorbeelden kan vinden van hoe ik denk fair en inclusief te zijn, terwijl ik dat helemaal niet ben. Laat ik daar maar eens een tijdje op gaan kauwen. Verbeter de wereld, maar begin vooral bij jezelf, Floortje Dessing.

Vijftig. Het woord alleen al. Ik kan nog steeds niet bevatten dat ik dat getal moet invullen als er op een formulier bij de douane om mijn leeftijd wordt gevraagd. Het is té onwerkelijk.

Ik blijf het fascinerend vinden om iemand te spreken die het voor elkaar heeft gekregen om een leven in en met de natuur op te bouwen, met een minimum aan spullen. Dat zal ook wel komen doordat ik, zelfs als kind, altijd al van zo'n leven heb gedroomd.

Als ik terugkijk op de manier waarop ik mijn leven tot nu toe geleid heb, kan ik niet anders dan constateren dat ik nooit goed heb gepast in de manier waarop we hier ons leven inrichten op het gebied van wonen en samenleven.

Mensen zijn eindeloos fascinerend.
Portretten maken van intrigerende mensen en hun beweegredenen vind ik het mooiste van Floortje naar het einde van de wereld.
Het blijft enorm boeiend om me onder te dompelen in iemands leven en te horen wat hem of haar drijft.

Van iemand die nogal veel reist, zou je kunnen verwachten dat ze precies weet wat ze uit de kast trekt als ze haar tas inpakt.
De waarheid is dat ik in al die jaren ongelofelijk vaak de plank heb misgeslagen.

Schrijven doe ik het liefst als ik op reis ben.
Pas dan kan ik de concentratie opbrengen die nodig is om mijn gedachten naar woorden te vertalen, zonder me talloze malen te
laten afleiden door allerlei telefoontjes, bezoekjes aan vrienden,
en websites die nog bekeken moeten worden.

De verhalen voor mijn progamma zullen nooit opdrogen, want er zijn altijd mensen die echt het roer durven om te gooien, en om de meest uiteenlopende redenen.
