I was enjoying this and then the Christian theme-ing just hit and it is very heavy-handed. I think that if I had read this as a child, it might not bother me as much but reading for the first time as an adult, I would prefer this kind of thing handled with a bit more nuance.

Fun prose but the fact that this was one of the first "fantasy" books is fairly obvious as it feels closer to a fairytale collection so far than even Tolkien/Lewis era fantasy.

Ugh this is a telling and not showing book so far. We're told that the MCs are such great friends or that they fell out but the book doesn't show it outside of one scene and then skips like 5 years.
Which I'm really sad about cause the rating is so good so I was looking forward to this.

This is starting off...hmm. I'm not that far in but it's not inspiring me so much so far. I know it's just set up but the discontinuity and fast forwardness of the first few chapters is not vibing with me.
