I doubt Jack Kennedy was the hero he was made out to be in PT 109. However his bravery and concern for his men is unquestioned. His many ailments were downplayed to get the appointment, motivated primarily by later political ramifications. There is no doubt, however that the physical stress was traumatic. The consequences were with him for the rest of his life - back pain, intestinal maladies and Addison's disease!
